MVP: diversity champions  
Each year the Kingston Immigrant Partnership (KIP) presents the KIP Employer Award to a local employer who has demonstrated a commitment to creating opportunities for immigrants, dedication to supporting diversity in the workplace, and support for community efforts in welcoming and integrating immigrants. This year’s winner is Weston Bakeries Ltd.—a great example of how hiring immigrants pays dividends.


Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) received 2 awards at the ONE Ford Global Diversity and Inclusion Summit. Eight countries including Brazil, USA, Argentina, Canada, China, UK, Germany and South Africa were in the running. FMCSA received the awards in the categories of Fostering a Respectful and Inclusive Environment and Leading the Way.

Wipro Technologies was recipient of this year’s NASSCOM Award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion in the category Best IT Services and Product Companies. The award recognizes and honours companies that have adopted and implemented policies and practices that have created a culture of inclusion. Wipro has implemented programs such as Women in Leadership, Mentoring for Success and the Women of Wipro (WoW) Speaker Series. The NASSCOM Corporate Award for excellence in gender inclusivity and diversity went to Anthelio, a provider of healthcare information technology services, for its efforts in creating a culture in which women employees are encouraged to achieve their full potential and advance to leadership positions.


The Council of Public Relations Firms has announced the winners of its inaugural Diversity Distinction in PR Awards in honor excellence in leadership and promoting ethnic diversity within the public relations sector. They were: APCO Worldwide (Best PR Firm Diversity Initiative), Porter Novelli (Best PR Firm Community Initiative), and Kim Hunter, Lagrant Communications, (Diversity Champion). King & Spalding​, a North Carolina law firm, has been chosen as the 2011 recipient of the BelkInnovation in Diversity Awardby the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. The award is presented annual to a local business organization that has demonstrated leadership and creative measures to improve workplace diversity and inclusion.

The Creative Diversity Network (CDN) announced the recipients of the CDN Diversity Awards 2011. The awards and winners included Battlefront, Channel 4, which won the Diversity Innovation Award. Mark Thompson, BBC director general, said, “The challenges that the BBC is facing - representation, portrayal, a more diverse workforce - are shared by all members of the CDN. Tonight's winners show just how much our industry can achieve when we get it right."


The Healthcare Planning and Marketing Society of New Jersey (HPMSNJ) has presented ARAMARK with its 2011 Special Achievement Award for the administrative fellowship program the company offers to promote professional development and diversity within hospital administration roles.


Baker & Daniels LLP has awarded its 2012 diversity scholarships to Mauri Miller and Danny Thiemann, second-year law students at the University of Notre Dame Law School and the Indiana University Maurer School of Law – Bloomington, respectively. Each student will receive a $10,000 scholarship and placement in the firm’s summer associate class.


Judith Harrison, senior vice president, Weber Shandwick, was recognized by New York Women’s Agenda (NYWA) for her career-long commitment to building a multicultural workforce that supports the personal and professional success of employees. The NYWA is a coalition of 100 women’s professional and advocacy organizations.


The Commission on Diversity at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa has honored Brenda Cartwright, a professor at the College of Education, and Satoru Izutsu, vice dean of admissions at the John A. Burns School of Medicine with its 2011 Faculty Diversity Awards. The awards are given annually to faculty demonstrating an exemplary and ongoing commitment to enhancing diversity.


The Human Rights Campaign has released its Corporate Equality Index for 2012 based on a list of employers whose practices and policies foster a welcoming workplace for LGBT employees. For a complete list of The Best Places to Work 2012, click here.
