We Don't Need to be Babysat: Persons with Disabilities an Untapped Talent Pool

At present, persons with a wide array of disabilities are working alongside their peers in jobs across Nova Scotia. This includes: learning disabilities, mental health conditions, physical limitations, brain injuries, chronic disease, and hearing and visual impairments.
Nova Scotia has the highest per capita rate of disability in Canada with one in five people having a disability. According to Nova Scotia Labour and Workforce Development, persons with disabilities are the fastest growing segment of the population to enter the workforce in the past ten years. Each day staff at my agency, East Novability, and the nine other partner agencies of Nova Scotia’s Collaborative Partnership Network, are working to fill the province’s employment needs. Persons with disabilities can and do work. They are as productive as other employees and employers regularly rate the performance of disabled workers the same as non-disabled employees. Australia
Although 90% of people in Victoria support cultural diversity, 86% also believe racial prejudice is prevalent in Australia. According to Dr Yin Paradies, one of the study’s authors, 37% reported they felt that the country was “weakened by ethnic groups sticking to their old ways.” Helen Szoke, commissioner of Victoria’s Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission which was involved in the study, told ABC News, "There was a statistic that showed a much higher incidence of racism which is experienced in the workplace reported by Indian and Sri Lankans.”....

| Whether we call them Millennials, “I” or “Me” Generation, Gen Yers, even Facebookers, they are the new younger and techno-savvy employees in our workforce.
