The Diverse Talent Pool

When energy giant Southern California Edison decided to launch a series of multicultural public service announcements, it didn't hire actors. Instead, it used its own employees. Some 600 employees turned up for the auditions.  The result? Thirty-seven spots in English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and Vietnamese.

"We operate our customer base in a very diverse region of the country. Because of that, we leverage the diversity in the region and we have a workforce that is reflective of that diversity."

~ Rich Martinez, Edison's director of human resources

“Our approach to diversity is a fully integrated program. It runs top to bottom. It runs boardroom to backroom, as we like to say. It plays across all levels of the organization."
