Canada’s private sector is performing at least 50 percent better than the federal government in hiring visible minorities, a committee of the Canadian Senate has been told.

The problem in meeting targets for recruiting minorities is failure of hiring managers to understand what tools they have to implement government policies, officials of the Public Service Commission told senators in recent hearings.  [ read more ]

A woman has been voted in as president of the Islamic Society of North America for the first time in the organization’s history. Ingrid Mattson, a native of Kitchener, Ont., will hold the position for two years. The Society founded in 1963 represents 60,000 Muslims across North America.
