Putting global experience to work
Members of another specialized profession coming to Canada as newcomers will have opportunities for employment here, thanks to a newly-launched Ontario training program.

As many as 300 internationally-educated agricultural science and technology specialists will be admitted to the province’s first registration program for agrologists, being offered by the Ontario Institute of Agrologists (OIA) in Guelph, Ont.  In September 45 candidates had already enrolled.

Candidates with agricultural degrees or the equivalent from foreign universities or other educational institutions will receive help from the OIA to qualify and register to practice in the province.

“Our goal is to build a stronger agricultural sector and a highly skilled labour force,” Leona Dombrowsky, minister of agriculture, food and rural affairs, said at the launch of the program last month.

This is just one of 24 bridge training programs funded by the province, helping more than 3,000 skilled newcomers put their global experience to work. The OIA has received $1.125 million under the program.
